the live version in live on two legs is much better than the album* version, i think. a critical view of the technology, capitalism, the idea of property is seen in both the lyrics and the video.
eddie vedder's comment on the song is as follows: that song is all about someone who's drunk with technology, who thinks they're the controlling living being on this planet. ýt's another one ý'm not singing as myself."

he is not actually the father of nihilism since the one who makes the term nihilism popular was turgenev. and as far as i know, nietzsche considers nihilism just as a tool to annihilate the old fictional values and is quite critical of it.
